Skate and destroy!

Since the early Eighties, Glen and his camera have become the ultimate observers of youth sub-culture. His photos and articles have given our movement a face. And seeing these pics nowadays will still kick you into a wormhole, back into time when everything was all hardcore...

Dammit: Today the weather was rather shitty again, ruining any option to go out there and skate. Your local skatepark's worth indeed suffers a bit, if you depend on mother sun to keep it dry and illuminated. But you can't have it all, right? Can't have a concrete skatepark with pool-coping and tiles and shit AND a roof and walls around it to keep you warm and dry, can you? Eeeehm... well, you actually can! Portland’s first indoor concrete skatepark "Commonwealth Skateboarding" opened it’s doors for business on February 26th and is now adding up to the incredibly huge volume of concrete covering so many fine spots all over Oregon.
The park is non threatening with only a few sections topping the 3 foot mark. In addition to the main bowl, there is a mini ramp and a street area with bank, box and flat bar. However, the actual skating at the grand opening celebration was not for the casual enthusiast, with some of Portland’s best skateboarders dodging and weaving to get a taste at the brand new park.
If you enjoy rolling on concrete, you will likely enjoy this park, so board a fucking plane to Portland and check it out!

...sei nich' traurich! Nein, es muss wirklich nicht immer Spanien oder Schweden sein, wenn man(n) steil auf Tour gehen will. Denn spätestens nachdem ich im Internet Bilder der Playground-Skatehalle gegoogelt hatte, musste mich Säsch von den Rebel Rockers nicht weiter bequatschen, an einem der letzten kalten Wochenenden mit dem restlichen Mob nach Ostfriesland aufzubrechen. Wer hätte gedacht, dass dies eine ganz besondere Reise werden sollte - eine Reise ans Ende unseres Verstandes...

Wir bleiben nochmal in Japan: Dort im Land des Lächelns, wo in Transitions eher noch nach klassischer Schule gerockt wird, herrscht auf den Straßen ein ganz anderer, wesentlich progressiverer Wind. Die Kollegen vom Far East Skate Network sind seit den 90er Jahren die ungeschlagenen Meister (jap. Sensei) darin, modernes japanisches Street-Skating in abgefahrenen Video-Collagen zu dokumentieren. Der folgende Clip bringt ganz gut auf den Punkt worauf es dabei ankommt: Rhythmus und Technik in Kombination mit diesem abgefahrenen japanischen Craze...   Ach was, checkt selbst, um das besser zu verstehen:

Sag  laut „Nippon“ und laß das Brainstorming beginnen: Sony, Nintendo, Kawasaki und Toyooota! Manga-Engel mit großen Augen und langen Beinen; dicke Sumo-Ringer und drahtige Ninja; jede Menge abgedrehte Erfindungen, vom Tamagotchi bis zur beheizbaren Klobrille mit eingebauter Analdusche plus Fön. Nicht zu vergessen die sexbesessenen Schulmädchen in ihren aufreizenden Uniformen und... stop it!!
